Here is a new segment that I will try to do at the end or start of every month. This is my own personal list of anime I have watched this month and enjoyed watching in this given month. And yes even though February was the month of love with Valentines Day, I’m sorry to say I didn’t really watch any romance anime last month.
Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid
As Kobayashi sets off for another day at work, she opens her apartment door only to be met by an unusually frightening sight—the head of a dragon, staring at her from across the balcony. The dragon immediately transforms into a cute, busty, and energetic young girl dressed in a maid outfit, introducing herself as Tooru.
It turns out that the stoic programmer had come across the dragon the previous night on a drunken excursion to the mountains, and since the mythical beast had nowhere else to go, she had offered the creature a place to stay in her home. Thus, Tooru had arrived to cash in on the offer, ready to repay her savior’s kindness by working as her personal maidservant. Though deeply regretful of her words and hesitant to follow through on her promise, a mix of guilt and Tooru’s incredible dragon abilities convinces Kobayashi to take the girl in.
Despite being extremely efficient at her job, the maid’s unorthodox methods of housekeeping often end up horrifying Kobayashi and at times bring more trouble than help. Furthermore, the circumstances behind the dragon’s arrival on Earth seem to be much more complicated than at first glance, as Tooru bears some heavy emotions and painful memories. To top it all off, Tooru’s presence ends up attracting several other mythical beings to her new home, bringing in a host of eccentric personalities. Although Kobayashi makes her best effort to handle the crazy situation that she has found herself in, nothing has prepared her for this new life with a dragon maid.
This anime is not yet complete so I am still following this over into March as more and more episodes get released.
When this first came out, I really wanted to watch it but I never expected what we got! Even though this anime might appear a funny lighthearted series, it does have its moments which are there to make the viewers reflect and think about their own lives and our own societies.
The series has gotten really popular -especially with Kanna’s character – and I can definitely see why! Its a nice light hearted funny anime with somewhat dark humour at times
In the year 2071, humanity has colonised several of the planets and moons of the solar system leaving the now uninhabitable surface of planet Earth behind. The Inter Solar System Police attempts to keep peace in the galaxy, aided in part by outlaw bounty hunters, referred to as “Cowboys”. The ragtag team aboard the spaceship Bebop are two such individuals.
Mellow and carefree Spike Spiegel is balanced by his boisterous, pragmatic partner Jet Black as the pair makes a living chasing bounties and collecting rewards. Thrown off course by the addition of new members that they meet in their travels—Ein, a genetically engineered, highly intelligent Welsh Corgi; femme fatale Faye Valentine, an enigmatic trickster with memory loss; and the strange computer whiz kid Edward Wong—the crew embarks on thrilling adventures that unravel each member’s dark and mysterious past little by little.
Well-balanced with high density action and light-hearted comedy, Cowboy Bebop is a space Western classic and an homage to the smooth and improvised music it is named after.
I know this is a classic anime and its a shame I only got introduced to it now. Also it was released the year I was born so I think that’s pretty cool!
Each episode is different, some are light-hearted and comical while others -such as the character backstories – have a really deep and meaningful tone. While I am still yet to finish this anime due to it being assignment time here at university, I can’t wait to watch more of this over the Easter break. Every character is unique and since its an older anime, its one of the very few ones now not set in high schools so that was a nice change!
A full review of this is already in the works so I won’t talk too much about this one. Keep look out for that in the next few weeks once I’ve finished the anime!
Usagi Drop is the story of Daikichi’s journey through fatherhood as he raises Rin with his gentle and affectionate nature, as well as an exploration of the warmth and interdependence that are at the heart of a happy, close-knit family.
I watched this anime early on in February with one of my uni mates. Despite the manga having mixed reactions, the anime as a stand alone is a beautiful story about parenthood and the difficulties in which new parents face. I think the way the anime uses certain artistic details is also amazing throughout this anime and its openings!
A full review of this anime will be published in the next week or so!
Yuri On Ice!
Reeling from his crushing defeat at the Grand Prix Finale, Yuuri Katsuki, once Japan’s most promising figure skater, returns to his family home to assess his options for the future. At age 23, Yuuri’s window for success in skating is closing rapidly, and his love of pork cutlets and aptitude for gaining weight are not helping either.
However, Yuuri finds himself in the spotlight when a video of him performing a routine previously executed by five-time world champion, Victor Nikiforov, suddenly goes viral. In fact, Victor himself abruptly appears at Yuuri’s house and offers to be his mentor. As one of his biggest fans, Yuuri eagerly accepts, kicking off his journey to make it back onto the world stage. But the competition is fierce, as the rising star from Russia, Yuri Plisetsky, is relentlessly determined to defeat Yuuri and win back Victor’s tutelage.
Yes, I only just got round to watching this anime. Once the anime has ended and the fandom isn’t as hyped up as it used to be (its still pretty hyped) I avoided it because even though everyone told me about the amazing ship that is Victor and Yuri , I’m not into sports anime. Nor do I know anything about figure skating. BUT I LOVE THIS ANIME!! I still need to complete it but I started it in late February.
I will post a full review of this when I have completed the anime but I already know I love this anime! The victor and Yuri moments are just wonderful; my heart goes out to those characters and I can’t wait to see the end.
PLEASE HAVE A SECOND SEASON!!!
